Chulu Far East

Chulu Far East peak is situated high above the Manang valley at the height of 6059 meters and offers breathtaking views across Annapurna ranges, Gangapurna, Dhaulagiri, Tilicho and Manaslu. The climb is a combination of classing Annapurna circuit heading to Marshyangdi valley crossing over the Thorung la pass of 5416 meters and down to the pilgrimage site of Muktinath and taking a spectacular flight from Jomsom. 

Chulu Far East Peak Climbing is an awesome blended opportunity of classic route of the most famous Annapurna circuit, valleys, landscape, ethnic groups and traditional villages. The climbs do not require any previous climbing experience but it's an asset if you have it. Physical fitness and acclimatization period is necessary before you ascend. Our climbing Sherpa will provide you an essential demonstration on climbing and using of tools which will be good enough for you to safely undertake the climb.

Itinerary

Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Syange

You leave in the morning for about 8 hours scenic bus drive to Syange'. Its a black topped and bumpy road which takes us to syange. You might need to change the bus at Besisahar depending on the road condition

Height: Kathmandu 1350m, Syange 1100m
Driving Time: approx.7-8 hours

Day 2: Syange to Tal

After breakfast we continue our trek following the dusty road for about 2 hours to chamje and after crossing over the bridge we head up hill walking following the trekking trail to Tal. Enjoy the natural water fall and stay overnight in tal.

Height: Tal 1700m
Trekking Time: approx.4-5 hours

Day 3: Tal to Thanchok

We continue our trekking trail after breakfast for about an hour and we hit the dusty road again for about two hours to Danaque. On the way we could see view of Mt. Manaslu. After Danque we avoid the dusty road and walk steep up hill through forest to Timang for about 1 hrs from where we could have nice view over mountain. After having lunch we follow the road again to Thanchok. Thanchok is a big Gurung village and we could also see nice mountain view from here.

Day 4: Thanchok to Pisang

We follow the road again throw the pine trees all the way to Chame. Chame, the administrative centre of the Manang district. It is a large village packed with small shops and tea-houses, an army post and a large school. From here we follow the marshyangdi river all the way to pisang from where you could have nice view of Mountain.You could enjoy the Buddhist cultural here.

Day 5: Pisang to Nawal

After breakfast we head up hill to upper pisang where you could see nice monastery and super
view of Mt. Annapurna II and III, Gangapurna, Lamjunghimal and others. After here we continue our trek throw pipe forest and climb steep up hill for about an hour to gharu and level walk from here takes us to Nawal. Nawal is a big village with lots of mane wall. Nice view of mountain could be seen from here as well.

Day 6: Nawal to Kharka

From Nawal trail opens further with gradual uphill through mixed forests of pine and juniper. Trees. We gain elevation gradually following Julu Khola (river). Take a short glimpse of Chulu waterfall en route. Mountain goats and yak are irregular hosts of the area. Annapurna, Gangapurna and Pisang peak can be seen en route. We spend overnight at Kharka.

Day 7: Acclimatization day

Today is an important day for acclimatization before we head further up. So we just get our body to acclimatize and explore the surrounding.


Day 8: Kharka to Chulu Far East Base Camp

Cross the river over a suspension bridge and follow steep uphill trail. The trail is narrow and steep further so we need to be cautious. Landscapes are full of small bushes and trails are rocky and vulnerable. A hard day full of thrill and exhaustion rewards us with wonderful view of Chulu East and other mountains from the base camp.

Day 9: Pre Climbing Training and Rest Day at Base Camp

Guide arranges a training session with all gears and equipments so that we will be able to avoid potential mishap today.  Remaining day can be spent with gossips and mountain jokes from guide.


Day 10: Chulu Far East Base Camp to High Camp

We don't have long way to fix today but yet journey continues. We mount further through rocky slopes decorated by small bushes. Our camping spot is towered by giant Chulu.

Trekking Time: approx.3-4 hours

Day 11: Summit Chulu Far East

We wake up early in the morning and head to the summit with full equipment. We ascend steep through snowy trails. The rope fixed by guide help us to much extent and makes us feel secure. Upon summiting the top take deep breathe and enjoy the triumph. The wonderful view of Annapurna, Pisang peak, Gangapurna , Manaslu make us feel blessed. Then we come down through the same way to the base camp.

Day 12: Base Camp to Manang.

Follow the steep downhill trail through the pine forest which is followed by level walk. We can have stunning view of Manang valley and beautiful buckwheat fields.

Trekking Time: approx.5-6 hours

Day 13: Manang to Yak kharka

Today we cross a stream and start climb to a village over Manang and continue our climb turning northwest. The trail follows northward passing few pastures, village, meadows and old mani wall before we reach to our destination.

Height: 4018m
Trekking Time: approx.4 hours

Day 14: Yak Kharka to Phedi

Today you have an easy two or three hour walk up to the lodge at Thorung Phedi where you will have lunch and stay overnight there getting to bed early for your early morning start the next day; the big pass day.

Day 15: Thorangphedi- Thorung La - Muktinath

Today you hit the trail early for about 5 hour walk to the top of the Thorung La at 5416m. From where you could see surrounding peaks as well as some part of Mustang. The descent is almost as demanding as the ascent to the top of the pass, with a steep rough trail down to Muktinath. Muktinath is an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists and Hindus, sacred for its auspicious combination of earth, fire and water.

Trekking Time: approx.10-11 hours

Day 16: Muktinath trek to Jomsom

This morning you have an easy walk following the road down to the Kali Gandaki riverbed, which you follow down to Jomsom. The Kali Gandaki valley gets very windy in the afternoons so it's a good idea to keep moving on the trail and get into Jomsom in time for lunch if possible.

Day 17: Jomsom - Pokhara

In the early morning you have an amazing 25 minute flight down the Kali Gandaki River Valley to Pokhara.
