TIJI FESTIVAL MUSTANG 2018

 

Tiji festival is one of the highly visitor engaging festival in Mustang. Tiji is celebrated in “walled city” Lo Manthang, Mustang. "Tiji" is abbreviation of the word "Tempa Chirim" which means "Prayer for World Peace". This festival commemorates the victory of Lord Buddha's incarnation Dorjee Sonnu over a demon called Man Tam Ru a vicious creature feeding on human beings and causing storms and droughts. In this festival, the monks perform a dance called” TSA CHHAM “on the first day of the Tenji and “NGA CHHAM”on the second day.

Tiji festival is celebrated in Mid of May and occurs for 3 days. Tiji festival lasts for total 3 days. During these periods the place is beautifully decorated by nature itself and monks perform dances. Within these three days of Teeji Festival many people experience feelings of amazement & calmness. During the stay in Lo manthang, one can visit the beautifully carved Lomangthang palace, John Cave, stunning monasteries, analyze the past civilization of Mustang. It is a wonderful and unique opportunity to learn about the beautiful landscape, heritage, lively hood & culture of the Lo mangthang people from Mustang District.
